NEW EDITING REPORT: Kodocha Kyle Pope reports that the English dialog for Funimation's release of Kodocha has been altered in various places to tone down the language. Most notably, Rei's "Pimp" status has been mostly removed from the jokes. Licensing issues have also caused the song "19 o'clock News" to be removed from the opening (along with the first opening animation as well) and from the Japanese and English audio for episode 1. NOT EDITED: Story of Little Monica After a site reader emailed me asking about it and because of the young looking characters shown on the artwork in the latest Right Stuf catalog for this title, I've recieved confirmation from Shawne Kleckner that the upcoming CriticalMass release of Story of Little Monica has NOT been edited.

MANGA EDITING: Although this site mainly focuses on editing and censorship done to anime titles, we do keep our eyes on manga titles that have been censored. Two recent titles have caused increased scrutiny of North American manga releases.

CMX's (DC Comics new Manga label) release of Tenjho Tenge has been heavily edited to turn this young adult title into something they are trying to market to young teens (which the edited version isn't really appropriate for anyway) and VIZ is covering nipples in it's version of I''s with stars (even trying to justify it with the fact that stars were used to cover nipples in volume 3 as a joke... VIZ looks like the joke in this case).

It also seems that VIZ is censoring quite a few Shonen Jump titles, to the point that saying "Shonen Jump" is the same as saying "censored manga". The only Shonen Jump title I've heard so far that is reportedly completely uncut, is Rurouni Kenshin (thank goodness).

Feel free to let these companies know how you feel about their censoring of these titles (try to be polite, but firm in your dislike for these edits).

NEW EDITING REPORT: Hooligan KJ reports that Critical Mass's DVD release of Hooligan has been edited to remove scenes featuring a young female character. Shawne Kleckner (president of RightStuf/Critcal Mass) has confirmed the edits. Read the editing report HERE or find it in the 'Full List' link.

Editorial:

After Kite was finally released uncut, I would have hoped that edits like these would no longer be done, but I guess there are still people who can't tell (or ignore) the difference between 'children' and 'drawings'. One needs to be protected, the other isn't real.

What I find very ironic is that people who consider material like this 'child pornography' are, in fact, supporting that same 'child pornography' with their purchases of edited releases or by paying for licenses of such titles. In the end, the original Japanese creators are being paid, regardless if the material edited out is used or not. So their money will supposedly be used to produce more of the material that they consider child pornography.

So, people who want it unedited won't buy it and people who consider it child pornography shouldn't buy it... where is the market for it again?

Confirmed: Kitty's Kite: Uncut is just that... UNCUT Anime on DVD forum reader Notanumber has confirmed that the video on Kitty's newest release of Kite is uncut. Considering the long and twisted history of this title in the United States and the fact that the No Editing Zone was born due to the editing of this particular title, this is indeed a major step forward for uncut anime in the United States.
