Thursday, February 22 , 2001 Edited Escaflowne Information: From the Right Stuf and Anime on DVD news pages: Bandai has ceased production of the edited Fox Kids version of Escaflowne. Volume 4 will be the last edited release. Those who were actually buying this release (not many apparently, hence why they dropped it) are not left out in the cold, they can now go buy the REAL Escaflowne uncut on sub VHS, dub VHS, and dub/sub DVD. I can't say I'm saddened by this news nor was I when Fox Kids canceled the broadcast. Every failed edited anime release just makes it less likely that other anime titles will be edited. Next up... Cardcaptors. Hey, one can hope, can't they?
Wednesday, February 14, 2001 Happy Valentine's Day French Kite on DVD: There has been some talk about the French R2 DVD release of Kite on the Anime on DVD Forums. By all reports it is uncut (except with the mosaics that were also on the original Japanese release). The name is "Domination Nakite" and can be found at various European DVD retailers. Japanese and French language only, no English audio or subs.
Sunday, February 11, 2001 NEW EDITING REPORT! I have added an editing report for Bastard. It covers name changes made (probably made to avoid legal problems) and some softening of explicit language. Read the editing report HERE or find it in the 'Full List' link. Updated Robotech/Macross Editing Report: Added information on the Super Dimensional Fortress Macross: Do You Remember Love movie only being available as the edited Clash of the Bionoids movie. Read the editing report HERE or find it in the 'Full List' link. REMINDER: Robotech is the edited remains of three separate TV series. If you want the uncut version you have buy the Macross DVDs from Animeigo (boxset is due in summer), not the edited Robotech discs from ADV. Hopeful Animeigo will get the rights to the uncut Japanese episodes of Southern Cross and Mospeada. Updated Dangaioh Editing Report: James Kahle has sent in some additional information on some dub changes in Dangaioh. Read the updated editing report HERE or find it in the 'Full List' link. Updated Transformers Editing Report: ShadowKn55 has sent in some additional information on Transformer differences between here and Japan, as well as info on the edited movie releases. Remember, this isn't really anime since it started as a American program, but it's included here for informational purposes. Read the updated editing report HERE or find it in the 'Full List' link.
Friday, February 2, 2001 IT'S HERE! I have completed my review of the less-cut version of Kite currently available from Kitty Media on VHS (sub and dub) under the name "Kite Director's Cut". Overall, they restored most of the cut footage and only several seconds of scenes featuring sexual contact between Young Sawa and Akai have been cut. I've reorganized the Kite editing report page as well to accomidate the information on the heavily edited AnimeWorks version and the newly released Kitty media version. I plan on adding a page of screen shots when I have the chance. Read the editing reports HERE or find it in the 'Full List' link. Dont't forget to ask Kitty for a DVD of this less-cut version. Updated Battle Athletes Victory Editing Report: Kenneth Lee has sent in a description and screen shoots of the ending that was not on Pioneer's North American release of Battle Athletes Victory. Thank you, Ken. Read the updated editing report HERE or find it in the 'Full List' link. Updated Robotech/Mospeada Editing Report: Metalformer has sent in a expanded report covering some of the changes made to Genesis Climber Mospeada when it was made a part of Robotech. Included are descriptions of some changes plus screen shots. Read the editing report HERE or find it in the 'Full List' link. Thurdsday, February 1, 2001 NEW EDITING REPORT! I have added an editing report for Tekkaman Blade written by Andrew Munro. It covers the various versions of this title outside of Japan (including a UK/Australia version and the North American verison). Read the editing report HERE or find it in the 'Full List' link. Thanks, Andrew, I can't do all the reports myself.
