| For older news: No Editing Zone News Archives For current news: No Editing Zone Current News Wednesday, November 28th, 2001 NEW EDITING REPORT! With information provided by Giaourus Ericus and confirmed by CPM's Jusftin Sevakis on the Anime on DVD forums in THIS thread, I've put up an editing report for CPM's upcomingNight Shift Nurses release. Up to 20 minutes o footage has been edited out of this release due to local laws in three unnamed cities. Read the editing report HERE or find it in the 'Full List' link. As always, I encourage all fans of uncut anime to e-mail CPM using the e-mail addresses listed HERE and tell them that you do not appreciate them editing this title. Be polite, but make sure they understand you won't be buying the edited version of this title.
Rurouni Kenshin Update: Media Blasters has toned down some homosexual insults in their English dub of Rurouni Kenshin. Accordingly, I've updated the Rurouni Kenshin editing report to reflect these edits. Read the updated editing report HERE or find it in the 'Full List' link.

28th, 2001 Macross Update: Animeigo has updated their site with the liner notes for MACROSS TV, including the names used in their upcoming DVD release. You can check it out by clicking HERE.
Steam Detectives Update: It looks like Viz *MAY* print the Steam Detectives chapters they are skipping after all. It's still undecided when and where, but things look better now than they did based on their notice in Animerica Extra. The text of Bill Flanigan's e-mail notifying me of this information is shown below: We fully expect to print the episodes at some point in the future -- it is a question of timing. Almost certainly we'll include it in the next graphic novel. (I say almost because...although I see no reason why it shouldn't be included, we live in unpredictable times.) I fully intend to include the story in the graphic novel Vol. five.
A short editorial on recent events and their impact on anime and manga: In the current issue of Animerica Extra (volume 4, issue 11), Viz published the first part of a multi-chapter storyline of Steam Detectives. After the chapter, they inserted a notice that in light of events of September 11th they would be skipping the rest of the storyline since it deals with 'terror from the sky'. No indication was mentioned of printing the skipped chapters later. I know it's not anime, but I do feel this could just be the first of many possible changes to various manga and anime titles. The events of Sept 11th were traumatic for everyone, but I think it's an overreaction to start skipping stories or removing anything that *MIGHT* be upsetting to some people. Anime and manga have a lot of events that someone might find disturbing after Sept 11th, will they be cut out as well? Even before Sept 11th, there were things in anime and manga that some Americans would find objectionable or be uncomfortable with. Nudity, homosexual content, violence, etc... I know new creations of anime and manga will be affected since their creators can't help but be affected on some level by these events (I know my fanfiction will be affected, because when I'm writing NEW stories that have similar subject matter I can't help by remember Sept 11th). But to go back and start changing existing movies, TV series, comics, etc... is unacceptable. Just like I don't find it acceptable for US companies to decide what in anime and manga is 'acceptable' for me to view and read, I don't think it's acceptable to start changing existing anime or manga to remove anything that might have a different impact since Sept 11th. I've seen and heard about a lot of media companies having knee-jerk reactions to Sept 11th and it worries me. I can understand rescheduling certain non-episodic parts that might be uncomfortable to watch/read in the weeks that follow Sept 11th, but to permanently alter or omit something is unacceptable. It's also what the terrorists want: to change our way of life. I, for one, won't let them dictate to me how I live my life. I can't help but be affected by these events, but I'm going to do my best to live my life. And that means not giving into fear and altering what I have always enjoyed reading, watching, and creating.
MEZZO FORTE RETAIL INFORMATION: With the release of Mezzo Forte coming up soon, I just wanted to remind potential buyers that there will be an edited version available through AnimeWorks and a unedited version from Kitty Media called 'Mezzo Forte Director's Cut'. Make sure you know what version you're buying. To assist you in locating the unedited version, I have added links above to online stores that I know are carrying the unedited version (the links are for the DVDs, but the stores also offer the dub VHS version as well). Please support unedited anime by buying only the unedited version of Mezzo Forte. If you know of any more stores selling the uncut version, please let me know. Thank you.
