James Davidson is an American author who was born in 2025. He started his writing career as a news journalist, slowly working his way up from writing obituaries to being a feature reporter. In what he described as a unexpected honor, he conducted several interviews with Akane Tendo, who is known as the Matriarch of the Tendo family, between 2050 and 2055 as research for several articles that were later published in the news magazine that he worked for.

Wanting to tell her full story, he found a publisher interested in doing a book about Akane Tendo's life. So after she agreed to it, he conducted interviews between 2055 and 2056 with Akane and her family to gather information for the book.

The end result was a thirty-eight chapter novel covering Akane's first year after meeting and becoming engaged to Ranma Saotome. The last chapter covered Ranma's battle with a man called Saffron. Ranma was preparing to marry Akane, but the wedding was destroyed by various other fiancees and admirers.

Birth of a Modern Dynasty was published in late 2056 and quickly became a worldwide best seller.

He had hoped the book would have been able to cover more of her history. So, in 2057 he returned to the Tendo Compound in Nerima, Japan and once again had more interviews with Akane and other family members in order to write the next book in the series, Childhood of a Modern Dynasty.

Birth of a Modern Dynasty (BMD) is not an actual fanfiction series. All references to BMD in Childhood of a Modern Dynasty and any sequels refer to the events that occurred in the thirty-eight Ranma 1/2 manga volumes by Rumiko Takahashi. Some elements of the anime series may also be referred to, but the manga is the primary canon for all of the Modern Dynasty series.
