As originally broadcast on Japanese TV and the 'Requiem for Victims' OVA.

Description of what effects the edits/changes had on the original story/plot (opinion)

If we presume the retrospective was to recap the television series for the Japanese viewers who had either not seen the television series or to refresh their memories of the events that occurred in the television series, then the removal of this segment does not affect the plot/story. Since the North American release included all the television episodes, the viewers of that version were not denied any part of the story.

However, it would have been nice if the retrospective would have been left in the final episode on Software Sculptures' release so North American viewers would have been able to see it exactly as the Japanese did (except for having English subtitles, of course).

 Detailed description of video edits

The Dancougar 'Requiem for Victims' OVA was included on Software Sculptures' Dancougar volume 8, but they edited out over an hour of footage from the OVA that featured a retrospective of the television episodes.

In the original OVA, the team enters Red Space and encounters the whirlwind and then the go into a "best-of" retrospective for about an hour. Then they went back tot he current action. The Software Sculptures release removed the retrospective.

What you can do to get the unedited version (import and domestic)
Import version:
  • Currently the only way to see the retrospective in the 'Requiem for Victims' OVA is by obtaining an import version from Japan (should be available on assorted home video formats from various sources).
