Description of what effects the edits/changes had on the original story/plot (opinion)

The edits only had a little affect on the overall plot and storyline (yes, there was one).

 Detailed description of video edits

The video was edited to remove several scenes involving Nin-nin in sexual situations. Only the very first release VHS contained these deleted scenes. After broad laws banning anythign that appeared to be child pornography, the VHS was recalled and edited to remove the Nin-nin scenes. The DVD release of La Blue Girl contained this edited/censored version as well.

What you can do to get the unedited version (import and domestic)
Import version:
  • The complete and uncut La Blue Girl is available by obtaining an import version from Japan (should be available on various home video formats from various sources).
From CPM:
  • The very first release of La Blue Girl on VHS was completely uncut and uncensored, so if you can track down a copy of that you can see the scenes removed. Unfortunately, it is long out of print and very rare.
  • John O'Donnell of CPM has indicated that since the laws regarding drawn and animated depictions of characters that appear to be children have changed, they may put the deleted scenes onto a future La Blue Girl DVD of a new L:a Blue Girl OVA series that is in production in Japan (assuming they get the rights).
 Anime´ Notes

Although understandable to avoid legal troubles, I wish that CPM had indicated the cuts had been done and not marketed them as 'uncensored' on the VHS and DVD packaging and title information. Cutting a video title in response to government laws is clearly censorship of that title.
