Although the inclusion of an accurate subtitle track is great (and something Bandai and Production IG should be thanked for), that doesn't negate the fact that the English dub changes are undesirable, unneeded, and alter the feeling of the show.

Since many of the jokes in Love Hina revolved around Keitaro's supposed 'pervertedness', the various stages of undress of the characters (both male and female), and other awkward sexual situations, 'toning down' the dub dialog like this really alters the whole feel of the show and changes the show in subtle and not so subtle ways.

The dialog used in the English dub varies from the original Japanese dialog in many places, while the English subtitles appear to accurately reflect the original dialog.

Many of the changes revolve around sexual situations or other risqué dialog. The video doesn't appear to have been edited.

Some examples provided by Phoenix from Episode 1 of the R1 DVD:

6:30 - When Naru is shaking Keitaro's hand in the school hall then realizes he failed the test, jerks back, falls then punches him bouncing down the hall. When he bounces to a stop, he is suppose to say "Pink... Ow", instead, they have him commenting about holding a girl's hand.

10:30 - In the hot springs, Naru mistakes Keitaro for Kitsune and comments about her breasts getting bigger. Bandai changes her to say "what are you doing way over there?"

10:50 - Immediately after that, Naru grabs Keitaro by his manhood and starts running back and forth in the pool screaming for help. The bit about Naru saying get away from me and Keitaro replying then let go was replaced with more screaming and yelling. Lost a good laugh there.

11:20 - When Keitaro gets caught up in the laundry basket and runs up the stairs, Kitsune is suppose to say "My underwear! Pay up!". Instead she says "where are you going with that basket?".

11:40 - They kept Kitsune's panty thief comment as Keitaro keeps running.

12:16 - Su calls Keitaro a mega-pervert monster, the dub skips any name calling.

12:40 - When Keitaro is finally trapped, Naru accuses Keitaro of feeling her breasts. In the dub, she stops short of finishing a sentence "Then you went....". Kitsune calls him a peeping tom instead of a panty thief.

13:00 - For his penalties (while he's on the cross), the sub says "Crucify and torture him, cut out his tongue and send him to Hell". The dub just says he should pay for his crimes.

14:00 - In praising Keitaro for being a university student, Kitsune talks about him becoming a lawyer, then a politician, then corrupt and finally rich. The dub left out the corrupt comment. In affect, they have drastically changed Kitsune's character by downplaying all her scenes.

14:49 - In Keitaro's fantasy about the girls feeding him dinner, the scene ends zooming in on Naru's face and them saying "or maybe you'd like to try me instead?" The dub ends with them saying just let us know if there is anything else you want.

15:40 - They kept the script pretty much the same for the scene where Kitsune puts Keitaro's hand on her breast and then tries to make a deal for the rent. However, they left out Kitsune's comment about Keitaro seeing her naked.

• Please write or otherwise contact Bandai and Production IG to voice your opinion about the edits they made to the Love Hina English dub. Remember to be polite as possible and ask for them to avoid toning down or editing the dialog for English dubs. Threatening or sending them flames will only get your message discarded.
