Detailed
description of changes

By Rick Payne First, there was a uncut version of Super Dimesnion (not "Dimensional," a common mistake) Fortress Macross: Do You Remember Love released in 1996 or so, from Best Film and Video. Titled "Macross" or "Macross: Do You Remember Love," the film was essentially an North American release of "Superspace Fortress Macross," an English Language dub actually produced in Japan for Japanese consumption. Cuts (or possible cuts) in both Dub version and "Clash" 1. "Clash" omits the entire opening sequence dialog between Britai and Exedor, where they discuss objects from Macross that they have found. 2. "Clash" cuts out large parts of the scene with Minmay and Hikaru in the cargo hold, including the entire "Zero-G Love" song sequence (no doubt to cut Minmay's nudity, although that's like taking a blowtorch to kill a gnat). 3. A scene directly relating to this is also cut, in which Roy, Max and Kakizaki ask Hikaru if he and Minmay had sex, and Kim, Shammie and Vanessa discussing a magazine article intimating the same thing. 4. Clash cuts out most violent scenes, including much of Millia's fight onboard the Zentradi ship (she decapitates a Zentran soldier with her lasers, cuts another one in half, and steps on the head of a third). 5. Much of the middle of the "Do You Remember Love" song sequence is cut out in "Clash", partly (again with the blowtorch/gnat metaphor) to excise a two-second shot of a soldier being decapitated by a falling building onboard Macross. 6. Large swathes of the post-final battle are also cut in "Clash," giving the impression that Hikaru was killed when he destroyed Bodolza (whose death scene was also cut). 7. The dub in both "Clash" and uncut versions, during the first battle translates Misa's heads-up that the enemy will be in range in thirty seconds as "The enemy will be in range in thirty MINUTES" 8. Also, a British sub of the movie has a problem: the Zentraedi term "Cycle" meaning roughly "year," is translated as "week." While 500,000 weeks is a looooooong time, it's not quite as long as what was originally intended...
From Chester Villar: To add to the Clash of the Bionoids edits, there's a scene after the cargo hold scene where Minmay is watching gossip of her on Tv. Another scene after that takes place in a lounge where Roy is showing Hikaru and Misa how to treat a lady. He grabs Claudia and plants a kiss on her. Claudia is then shown pounding on Roy like he's over doing it. |
