Description of what effects the edits/changes had on the original story/plot (opinion)

Changes setting, makes male female, doesn't kill characters, character personalities changed, changes some especially graphic and distrubing ideas. Some of the story elements order are changed. Basically the story is made less serious.

Moves setting from United Earth Government and world wide movement to (presumably) United States controlled Military (use of "President's orders" often justifies a battle, while the orginal refers more to a more united effort). Locations of attacks/battles changed to make the series more America focused (in first episode, attack location changed from Australia to US). Characters that died in the Japanese version are not killed in English versions (Balzac, Balzac's friend, Sargent Barnard). Male character (Rebin) changed to female to remove all traces of homosexuality.

Distrubing and graphic ideas/actions of the characters are changed to make the series suitable to a younger audience. Tekkaman Evil (Teknoman Sabre) is made to seem a lot less, well, evil. His random murder(s) are removed and the story is changed so Miyuki (Shara) self-destructs instead of getting tourtured to death. Deaths of general military personelle are removed altogether, Blade and Pegus' relationship made more distant (Pegus' "human side is dulled down). Blade is a lot more cocky in battle & not as regretful, so his loss of memory, etc, are less important to the story, Evil (Sabre) is made more regretful & all the rest of the enemies are made much less human and more evil.

Some continuity errors in early episodes (Dagger showing wounds that occur in later episodes, some incorrect scenes shown) due to Saban hacking the episodes and removing Japanese preludes to show (these preludes gave basic storyline), so Saban had to move scenes to create a storyline base. Also, story edited so Blade saves the "Blue Earth" (a spaceship) on several occasions through brute strength. The uncut series had the "Blue Earth" saving Blade on those occasions. In US version, some continuity errors occur due to violence cutting (see Video Edits: US edits below).

In later episodes (about episode 30), scenes are changed and the storyline is changed due to the merging/removal of episodes. Storyline episodes are severly cut or merged from about episode 26 onwards and more "action" is put into each episode.

The final episode of Teknoman is a merging of the two final original episodes. Many ideas essential to the series' sequel are edited out, as is most of the final battle between Tekkaman Evil and Tekkaman Blade. Most evidence of human suffering is also removed. Humanity from Pegus (a robot) is also removed (in particular an oil-tear when Pegus "dies"), though I have no idea why.

 Detailed description of video edits

General edits - (Both versions) *Please note there were two versions of Teknoman created, a North American version and an Australian/British version*

Basically all deaths are removed. All blood, dismembered limbs, etc are completely removed to make acceptable to children's timeslots. Tekkaman Blade's transformation sequence is edited so all nudity is removed. The order of how his armour appears also changes so it doesn't appear that pieces of metal burst out of Blade's flesh. Nudity removed in all Tekkaman untransformation scenes. Also, (annoyingly), the dubbed versions show Blade's transformation in full at least once an episode (this was cut out in episode 7 of the original series) and is used to extend the length of each episode.

US edits: Violence more harshly cut than in Aus/UK version, eg. evidence that a watch was used as a knuckle buster (episode 4) is totally removed. (US version: Blade goes flying across the screen, Ringo (Noal) advances menacingly, then very poor cut to Ringo holding Blade's head. AUS version: Blade flys across the screen, Ringo walks up menacingly and hits Blade again. Ringo says: "At least Mac's watch is useful for something other than telling the time!") This second (uncut) version makes more sense because in the next episode Ringo's watch is slow and he almost kills Blade because of it.

Detailed description of opening and ending changes

Eyecatch edits: Both openings tell the background story, US by narrator and AUS/UK by characters. Japanese openings were the general musical openings with completly custom animation. All custom Japanese animation is removed from openings and instead scenes from the show are used. The Aus/UK opening draws most of its animation from the final episode and contains major spoilers.

Both versions share an almost identical closing theme (again completly different from the original), which consists of the main theme music and still shots from the series. The original closing is the common musical closing with custom animation. The orignal series had 2 opening and 2 closing themes. The dub's closing theme also neglects to mention any Japanese crew (maybe American's traced over the original cels??), except for a tiny little disclaimer saying that the series was the underlaying property of Tatsonoko.

AUS/UK Teknoman uses recaps from previous episodes before every episode (different from the originals), while US series uses preview scenes at the end of each episode (different from originals).

Detailed description of English subtitle changes
As of January 28th, 2001, no commercial English subtitled version exists.
Detailed description of English dub changes

Audio Changes: 100% new. All original music, sound effects changed. No vocal songs are contained in English version, musical variety cut down to about 3 tracks. Obviously all vocals changed, though some vocals changed from US to AUS/UK versions also.

The two versions of Teknoman created have several differences. Names of the Teknomen are kept faithful to the Japanese version (except one) in the Aus/UK version, while the US version changes all the names. Some of the Seiyuu are changed from the two versions. Aus/UK Teknoman was the only version aired in its entirety (the US version was axed after 26 episodes.)
