Anime: Zoids Chaotic Century/Guardian force/New Century Senseiki/0 Name changes: Just minor changes like "van flyheight" in comparison to "bang freiheit" and "fiona" to "fine" and "schubaltz" to "schwartz." Zoids is a highly underrated anime due to the franchise of toys, and to the amount of editing that was done to spread this franchise to the younger audience. Because of this, people consider this anime as if it is a second pokemon, only with mecha attributes. The changes were basically to turn this anime into a show purely for young children (i.e. swear words taken away, some scenes ommitted, lines changed, impressions changed, etc.). Because of these changes, the anime plot was hindered a selling point for models which came in the form of zoid battles here and there, they tried to make it out to simply be a "beat em up robot" show, whereas it has a decent plot. From watching the whole dubbed series and a few uncut japanese (there is no english uncut) I have seen changes taken into effect. Take episode 19: Prozen's conspiracy for example. The first thing I noticed when I saw this unedited was when Rosso was drinking an alcoholic beverage and Viola responds "No more drink for you Rosso" dubbed, but uncut she simply states that he should hurry up with his sake, notice how someone can easily pass by "drink" without any suspicion leading towards a different line. Another thing happened later in the episode, in the dubbed, it shows a molga driving off and you can hear Bianco's voice saying "Hey, back off a little, I'm trying to drive here" but in the japanese version, he says nothing, this leads me to think that they added that in for comical relief, though I don't see how someone would be laughing heartily at that. Also, when one of Medelanick's subordinates screams "You motherless neanderthals!" he really is saying "Kuso namierate!" which is in fact swearing. Some scenes were omitted as well, such as when Rosso smashes a soldier's head into a wall, many different angles of soldiers shooting, and a scene where Rosso and Viola are running away with Rudolf and he is wriggling around trying to get free, he was screaming some things that I couldn't understand. I haven't seen many uncut episodes, but some things I know about are: The whole shower, Bit barging in on Leena scene. The openings and openings for the Japanese versions change, but they are just like any other anime series, a song and a sequence. The american version truly westernized the opening by showing clips of zoids battling and doing various things, and the "song" is a voice saying "ZOIDS, ZOIDS" over and over with a guitar playing in the background. The ending is just as bad, only it just has a guitar, no "ZOIDS." I have not been able to find a subtitled version of Zoids This anime was licensed by hasbro who told tomy to make a whole series just for advertising, this series was called "Zoids Fuzors" which is pretty much a second pokemon. Zoids Fuzors has no story, it is cell shaded instead of the traditional/CG that the other series used, and it really has nothing more than just battles with the latest hasbro release zoid models. The characters include RD, Sweet, Gummi, Helmet, Stigma, and Hop, not very appealing or well thought out names. Right in the first episode, one of the characters says "YeeHaa! I'm gonna wrangle you up, RD!" Other various shallow depictions of the anime are the "depth" in the anime, such as the feud between two characters which comes in the form of "This is it! The moment we finish what we started.....LONG AGO!" which of course ends in "I'll be back, RD!" The only change in the name of the anime was in season 3, they changed it from Zoids: New Century senseiki/0 to Zoids: New Century Zero. |
